Welcome to the written version of our test video:
Watch here: https://youtu.be/mh_fvELGJFY
This article is meant mainly as a supporting document to the video so make sure you watch to get the full picture on these rations.
The product:
The rations are the Seven Oceans Standard Emergency Ration pack, they make a nice compact addition to your survival kit.
As you can see above, the ration offers 271 calories per bar with 9 bars in each back. With the recommendation of a minimum of 2000 calories a day, although this is billed as a 3-day ration pack, you can see the calories involved add up to the recommended minimum daily calories.
The dates are very clearly marked, this test was done towards the end of May 2024 so still has some time left before needing to be replaced.
I have had this in my kit since mid-late 2021, so we will now test how it is after being stored for a few years in my office.
Inside the box:
So opening the box was a first for me, they sat in my go bag for 3 years or so. That was when I learned it was only 24 hours if you go by Calories, but 3 days when you are waiting in a lifeboat for rescue.

These are the additional photos of the packaging:

Test result:
If you watched the video, then you already know the result. For those who just want the headline, the result is that the rations are that while they are good and pleasant enough to keep in your kit - I would be using them as a backstop. I would want some more pleasant rations (future reviews coming) for survival.
These 24-hour packs are $25 each so 3 of them will cost you circa $75 NZD plus shipping, this would provide you 3 days of food which is the minimum you should have per person for your survival kits.
Opinion:
Would I buy these again?
I would certainly buy one of these again (for each person I am responsible for in my emergency kit), however coming away from this test video I have definitely decided to augment my emergency supplies. I had more than one of these in my kit to provide calories for 3 days of hard work during an emergency, however I will now be looking to get other more tasty rations for my survival gear and these will form part of it.
So yes I would, however I will want more varied rations than just these for me and my family.
